In defining the tasks of Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, Rhône-Alpes Region desires to :
Rhône-Alpes Cinéma invests as a coproducer in film production in exchange of a percentage of receipts.
The contribution of Rhone-Alpes Cinema is not a subsidy.
Rhone-Alpes Cinema does not directly produce films.
The investments are mainly financed by the Rhône-Alpes Region in partnership with the National Center for Cinema. Rhone-Alpes Cinema has an annual investment capacity of 3 to 4 millions euros, consisting of contributions from the Region and the CNC, and the revenue generated by the exploitation of films. Investments focus on feature films shooted significantly in the Rhône-Alpes Region agreed by the National Center for Cinema. Rhône-Alpes Cinéma produced on average 10 to 15 films per year. Since 1990, Rhône-Alpes Cinéma co-produced over 200 films. It is the largest regional fund supporting creation and film production in France after the Ile de France Region (Paris).

Prior to co-producing a film, Rhone-Alpes Cinema Cinema may be involved in financing the first steps of project development, especially during the screenplay writing periode. Authors desk is responsible for monitoring these projects, particularly those of regional authors.
